I was loose on a rooftop Browning automatic rifle on Friday afternoon ( with the shooting challenge in mind ) and looked for a good photo op when this person appeared on a taller rooftop across the street . His outline shaped by the background sky ad libitum generated an excellent shot . Sony RX-100 f/10 ISO-125 1/400sec

This is in Chicago . The day the competition was announce we had low altitude cloud , which I like in front of the Sears / Willis Tower . I went up to the cap and bring a mountain of shots , but I decided that I take the commuter train train in the picture . I waited for the right timing between cloud and gear and took the gibe .
Equipment : Sony A7 + Sony 55 mm 1.8 @ f/8 , 1/400 , ISO 100 . I cropped the picture a little act and did light Wiley Post - processing in LR .

Generating Station
This is a photo call for with an iPhone 4S in Panorama modal value , turned through approximately 180 ° gyration . The survey is from the roof of the independent building at the Goldendale Generating Station , in Goldendale WA . I ’ve worked here for almost ten years , and have not gotten hackneyed of the view yet ! The city of Goldendale is seeable in the left one-half of the frame , behind all the power flora stuff . On the left side of the skeleton , the tan social organisation that climb up up from the construction and bend dexter to the leftfield – that is the air intake and filters for the Combustion Turbine , or CT . The red-hot accelerator from that turbine ( imagine a squirt railway locomotive , only much bigger ) pass on the building , moving left to right in the pic , and enter the tan structure beginning at the center of the frame . This is the Heat Recovery Steam Generator , or HRSG . This is a boiler , commute rut vim from the red-hot gasses and creating steam , which in bend provides the vigor to a Steam Turbine . The Steam Turbine is housed in the building whose roof provided my vantage point today . The last structure on the rightfield is an Air Cooled Condenser . The couple of large pipes across the top bring the steam here after it exhaust from the Steam Turbine with most of its energy removed . That steam flow down ten enormous pair of radiators ( the angled white-haired surface ) , across which ten fan of 200 horsepower each blow airwave to off the last moment of vigor from the steam and condense it back to water , which is pumped back to the HRSG to be moil again , in a giant closed loop .
The ladder I rise to get here is also visible closely to the camera on the veracious edge of the skeleton , and a percentage of the roof I ’m on extends to the unexpended border of the frame . Where I ’m stand I am 80 pes above the paving , and the top of the exhaust pile on the far right-hand oddment of the HRSG is 150 foot high .

The challenge for this one included :
– A suburban location without any tall building .
– Not wanting to go on the roof due to a mild fear of heights
– A boring view from the ceiling
Therefore , I read the “ Rooftop ” challenge literally , and took the look-alike of the top of the cap . It was capture with an iPhone 5S , and then the epitome was leveled in Paint.net , and then call on into a duotone to highlight the blue sky .

I was head out to meet up with a few coworkers for dinner and cease up getting there almost an hour early on . After wandering for a number , I consider a building that rose up slightly eminent than all the others . It took a few minute but I turn over the rooftop and got a adequate guessing close to sunset . I used a Canon 70D with a 17 - 50 millimetre f/2.8 Tamron lens at f/4.0 or so .

Missile Storm
We were having some herculean storms do through on the daytime this contest was harbinger . I handle to poke my promontory through the door to the roof to get a motion-picture show of the last of the rain to come through . It was eldritch lighting as the Dominicus was about to go under . The lower swarm were yellowed due to the jell sun , but the high tempest cloud were still livid . The large blowhole are the exhausts for the hoods in the chemistry science lab .

My building is a few blocks from Elliott Bay in Seattle and ships are often going by to the port after coming in the the Pacific . The “ E ” is for the Edgewater hotel , where their Beatles stick around on their first US tour . To enhance the sunset I used a orange gradient filter run along the treeline in the backcloth .

unluckily , I do n’t have that much access to rooftops , so I had to postulate my friend to permit me apply the fourth story rec rooftop orbit on his building . We were aiming for sundown , but were just shy of it . The next 24-hour interval , it collide with me that I have liaison in the EPA that would ’ve let me taken pictures from their green roof some 40 stories up , but by then , it was Saturdayand they would ’ve been closed . Fort Worth
Here ’s an image of the Fort Worth apparent horizon from atop of a parking garage . I was only there about 5mins before security asked me to leave . So this is what I got . I photograph this image with my 4×5 prospect camera with a homemade adaptor back to match by 5d . The crystalline lens I was using was too encompassing to allow the bellows of the camera to be any closer together , thus I could n’t get the image in focus . But I still wish the means that it turned out- advantageously than the in focus blastoff that I took with my 5d alone .
