Beingstuck at homesucks . One of the best things you could do — besidesabsolutely staying at home — is to make some updates to said home . How do you do that ? There are lots of ways . For exercise , you could clean things ; your windows , floor , kitchen , surely those things could use a once over . Of naturally , that ’s not very fun . So we came up with a few activities you could do that are utile , rewarding , and enjoyable that might make staying at house at least a little easy .
Organize
If you ’re like me , you have piles of crap everywhere . Papers , banker’s bill , magazine , fundamentally everything . Well , now is a good time to get that stuff under ascendancy . For me , that meant getting my videodisc collection and card in rules of order . For you maybe it mean albums , record book , comics , natural action figures , etc . You get the idea .
For my poster , of which I have a lot , I went through and put them into mound . There ’s a “ Let ’s examine to get this on the wall ” pile , a “ Let ’s strain to sell this hatful , ” and then an “ I like this but I do n’t know what to do with it ” pile . The first two are self - explanatory , and we ’ll talk more about the 2nd one after . For that last category though , I flatted everything out and put it in my categoric file ( you may see an prototype above ) .

While you’re home, now is the time to decorate your home the way you want it. For example, I hung up my custom framed Olly Moss Star Wars posters. Yes, this is a bit of a humblebrag.Photo: All Images (Germain Lussier)
Flattening posters is better for their longsighted fourth dimension life twain and I commend it if you have a place to lay in them . If you do n’t have a flat file to do that , though , you could carefully put them under your bed or a sofa . If you have some froth centre , use that , but until the stores are backopen post - quarantine , a rag of composition board will do . You just need something to make moving them easier and to keep them out of the way . you could even start looking into a big portfolio , which would double as storage and display .
For my DVDs , it ’s just about figuring out a system of rules that works for you and going with it . Some people go by color . Others by music director or series . in person , I ’m childlike — I like received alphabetizing . Self - explanatory and it takes a tenacious time but , what else are you doing ? The result is quite rewarding when everything is tidy and easy to come up .
Decorate
Do you think your shelves are cool ? Or are they just shelf ? If they ’re just shelf , move some stuff around and break it up . confound a works here , a taper there . Funko soda water on one ledge and wand on another . Do you keep military action figures in their cases so one day you may bed on them ? If so , put them on the shelf instead of Christian Bible . You know you have lots of coolheaded small trinkets lying around , so use those to fall apart up the monotony of Holy Scripture , Holy Writ , book .
Speaking of action figures , if you have them open up , would n’t it be fun to make an expansive action scene that lives across your intact bookshelf ? ( Now , if you ’re reckon “ I do n’t just have action figure laying around , I ’m an adult , and if I did why would I carefully set them around a bookshelf ” I ’ll refer you back to the headline on this clause and postulate , “ Why are you reading this ? ” )
Meanwhile , yes . Now would be a good sentence to dust off some stuff . Have you ever seen how much junk collects on a Lego ? It ’s disgusting .
It may not look like much, but my flat file has got it where it counts. As in, it’s filled with organized posters.
Purge
We all havetoo much stuff . It ’s true . dress , coffee smiler , playscript , sure-enough CDs , etc . Since you ’re just sitting there , why notdo a little Marie Kondo actionand get rid of thing you do n’t habituate or need ? I ’m sure you have dozens of nerdy t - shirts you do n’t wear anymore . So take those , throw them in a cup of tea , and put them aside for when you could go donate them . The same goes for old lamp , plates , dismembered He - Man toys , Barbies with their hairsbreadth chopped off , or those aforementioned in - package action at law figures you hoped to retire on . ( Sorry , but that Ric Olie Phantom Menace toy is not worth anything — donate it to someone who might get some use out of it . ) You ’ll experience lighter , your place will look bigger , and you ’re doing a good deed too .
If there are things you do n’t want anymore but think they may be worth money , now is also a proficient clip to prepare to sell them . It might not be the best time to in reality trade them as we ’re all render to tighten our belts a chip , but eBay hasa gulp function where you’re able to populate a post with all the proper verbiage , enquiry , and extremely gracious photos you dead can drop lots of prison term making very beautiful . Not everyone out there is honorable and you ’re going to want to be clear about the condition of the token when you institutionalize them , especially if they ’re collectable and/or easily damage like a poster .
Shelves don’t only have to hold useful stuff, they can have other things too. My wife and I like to display Legos and other memorabilia on them along with books and such.

Less useful stuff
The thing with being home constantly is you have a set of meter . So after an good afternoon of poster hang , DVD organizing , or shelf arranging , take the time to reward yourself . Start act upon down that pile of books you have by the bed . see thatshow every negotiation aboutbut you have n’t hear . Rent that motion-picture show you drop in the theatre . These thing are n’t utile but they ’re manifestly more playfulness .
