Kate Winslet’s daughter, Mia Honey Threapleton, is following in her acting footsteps.
The Holidaystar welcomed her first child in October 2000 with then-husband, film director Jim Threapleton. Over the years, Winslet has opened up about motherhood, including how much she enjoys spending time with Mia. “I love being a mum," she toldMetroin 2008.
Winslet has also made sure her daughter is comfortable in her own skin and started setting the groundwork for body positivity at a young age.
“I’ve just started subtly telling Mia, ‘I love my belly. … I’m proud of my belly and I’m proud of my hips. I love my body.’ ” she told WENN in 2007. “I want to give something to her that is empowering so when she comes into her teenage years she feels confident in herself.”
Though Mia is all grown up now, Winslet still spends quality time with her. In 2021, she stepped away from work for a year to hang out with her children. (The actress also has two sons, Joe and Bear.)
“I took last year offto be with my family and to recover fromMare of Easttown,” she toldVariety. “It was good to have a bit of a reset.”

Winslet became a mom for the first time when she welcomed daughter Mia with then-husband Threapleton on Oct. 12, 2000.
When Mia was 1 year old, Winslet and Threapleton divorced after three years of marriage in December 2001, perThe Irish Times. Despite going their separate ways, the actress and director seemed to be on good terms and were spotted picking Mia up from school together.
Winslet tried to give Mia a fairly normal childhood

While theTitanicstar has continued navigating Hollywood and earning praise for her different projects, she also tried her best to be a hands-on mom. In 2017, she toldHarper’s Bazaarthat she didn’t “have a chef or a driver or things like that” because she would rather do it herself.
“I would be so unhappy if I had those things and I wouldn’t feel like I was being a real person anymore,” she explained. “It just wouldn’t be right for my family — I know that my kids would absolutely hate it.”
Winslet added, “I want them to look back and remember my chicken soup and my packed lunches and that it was me on the school run.”
As for work, she brought Mia and her siblings along and ensured they were content. “When I travel for work I try and bring them with me but they rarely come on set,” she toldThe Sun-Herald.“I would never drag them along and leave them in a trailer with a box of crayons waiting for mummy.”

According to theDivergentstar, Mia’s different last name helped her build a career separate from her mom’s.
“She slipped under the radar, and the people who cast her had absolutely no idea that she was my daughter,” Winslet said. “That was important for her self-esteem."
Mia began acting when she appeared inA Little Chaosat age 14. She went on to work onShadowsandDangerous Liaisons.
“I never actually spent much time around sets that my mum was working on,” she toldVarietyafter working onShadows. “It’s a very different experience when it is happening to you.”
Mia continued, “I really understand why my mum has always impressed on us how hard the work is. She is right! And I loved every second of it.”

“Sometimes I could introduce her to a technical trick here and there,” she told BBC One’sSunday with Laura Kuenssberg. “Just little things I picked up along the way, like changing an eye line … Little things like that, that no one teaches you. And she appreciated that stuff.”
The following year, at the BAFTA Awards, the mother-daughter duowalked the red carpettogether, and during the event, Winslet won best actress while the project earned the best single drama.
Mia has four younger siblings
Mia has a big, blended family and four siblings from her parents’ subsequent marriages.
Threapleton wed Julie Vuorinen in 2008, and they welcomed their daughter Olivia. According toThe Telegraph, Winslet was “delighted” to hear their personal news. Threapleton and Vuorinen also have a second daughter, Georgia.
Meanwhile, Winslet went on to welcome son Joe Alfie in 2003 with now-exSam Mendesand son Bear Blaze in 2013 with husband Edward Abel Smith.
Mia quickly took to being a big sister, and even helped her mom out with her little brothers.
“[Mia is] incredibly helpful to me as a woman,” she told PEOPLE. “I’ll say to her, ‘Mims, can you please have Bear for the next hour? I’m just gonna grab a shower and I got a couple things I got to do.' She’s like, ‘Yep, sure!’ “
“It’s really special in terms of, that’s what families are about,” Winslet continued. “Children should play with each other and look after each other. That’s really what we have and it’s very special and something that I never could have anticipated.”

Winslet has starred in numerous notable films, but one stands out from the rest for her daughter.
“Mia and Joe loveEternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Love [it], and love the soundtrack,” she told PEOPLE in December 2022. “So regularly, I’ll hear from someone’s bedroom, Beck blasting. I’ll be like, ‘That’sEternal Sunshine.’ So that’s kind of amazing.”
