Another calendar month , another two Things That Make wakeless fromAltec Lansing : one for iPods ; one for microcomputer . Meet the iMT800 , a fairly actual , iPod - infused take on a 1980s - style boombox , and the MX6021 , a speaker set apparently made from motorcycle parts .
Both products are attractive in their own way , but stumble over the same minor detail . The MX6021 , picture above , is another one of those pretty “ Expressionist ” speakers Alteckeeps making , and this time they ’ve opted for some form of auto part / ponderous machinery/1990s distance movie esthetical . As far as sound die , it ’s a passably stock 2.1 system , though Altec stresses its gen - u - ine 200W evaluation .

The iMT800 is slant as a modern - 24-hour interval boombox , with five built-in speakers , digital FM radio , an iPod bob with a twist stabiliser ( so you do n’t shear off the connector ) , a remote and a pair of auxiliary stimulation for other devices . I sort of go for the eight D - cell battery requirement is a knavish nod to the gadget ’s battery - thirsty ascendent , but I ’m not so trusted . To Altec ’s credit entry , though , those eight batteries last 30 hours and get their own battery capacity read-out , so you should n’t be too worried about unplug this thing .
Now , about that “ small-scale detail ” : Price ! In both cases — the iMT800 at $ 300 and the MX6021 at $ 150 — it ’s a footling high . Both are available now . [ AltecLansing ]
