For much of its runtime , the installment has no trouble presenting Denji ’s struggle as one that ’ll always accommodate him back from the future he would have if he were n’t busy cleaning up his forefather ’s hatful . One consequence , he ’ll actively sample to figure out how to keep himself and Pochita fed through the month , and the next he ’s rattle off the various incidental dead body part he ’s sold off just to get by . The episode punctuate that Denji ’s live on a dull , unrealised life , and co - conductor Ryū Nakayama and Makoto Nakazono bring that obtuseness and yearn for something more meet across in the visuals . Through different tv camera angles and shots of the urban center , Denji and Pochita ca n’t help but palpate small and insignificant as they take the air through town , which itself is often shown as idyllic and the type of place where you could make your own time to come . Colors are dampen for much of the episode ’s runtime , as if to mirror Denji ’s exhaustion and hopelessness , but they bloom towards the end during two key conversations between him and Pochita .
Making a weenie ( or cat ) the sole familiar to a homo is something that ’s been done countless times across hundreds of shows and picture show . But in the same mode that the show is forthright when it comes to its friend ’s debt , Chainsaw Man does n’t hear too severely in respect to Pochita . He ’s a full boy , yes , but the show does n’t go out of its way to make him anything more than a dog that just happens to have a chain saw for a face . And because of that choice , the decision he make towards the episode ’s end feel all the more poignant because of how long Denji was operate under the opinion that he ’d spend the last several years with an ( admittedly deadly ) ducky .
It ’s not hard to see how American superhero funnies have influenced recent shonen stories , and Chainsaw Man feels like it in some path is drawing inspiration from Venom . Denji may not have a hunger for brains or desire to take over random people like Marvel ’s Symbiotes do , but his glowing orange eyes and long atrocious teeth certainly make him as equally awful to look at as Eddie Brock ’s deadly protector . It ’s a shame , then , that the CG used to get Chainsaw Man to life ( and used to begin with throughout the instalment ) can sometimes palpate out of place . Because the rest of the show is in 2D , a CG Chainsaw Man that ’s also operating on a unlike framerate from the rest of the 2D earth count out of place , peculiarly when he ’s in minimal motion .

Even with the CG weirdness , Chainsaw Man is n’t the strangest looking matter the episode has to tender — that would go to the Devil that ’s sent a swarm of zombies to manducate him to bits — but MAPPA ’s gift for bringing monstrous manga designs to exalt life once again scramble . Seeing him snarl at the tv camera , it ’s punishing not to feel sorry for whoever ’s going to be on the receiving end of chainsaws . And the show knows this , as the joy of seeing him carve through the zombie soon gives way to horror as he cackles with glee as he completes his business .
Closing out the premiere is the appearing of Makima , a girl who operates as a Devil Hunter for the politics . After determining that he ’s a human / Devil cross , Makima gives him the choice to join her in hunting other Devils or die , and he well accept . Considering the closeness of this show ’s debut to the start ofGundam : crone from Mercury , I could n’t avail but view this first installment as an Episode 0 to the real story that ’ll get in the come week . Whatever MAPPA does with the debut season of their first serial publication , Chainsaw Man ’s already chip at out an telling , bloody ecological niche for itself .
