Eddie Murphyloves Christmas, even more so than the Chris Carver character he plays in Prime Video’s new holiday movie,Candy Cane Lane.
“My house is beyond Chris Carver every year — my house is all out Christmas,”Murphy, 62, tells PEOPLEin a recent joint interview withCandy Cane LanecostarTracee Ellis Ross. “We’re talking about one behemoth tree. When you walk in the house, this tree has to be . . .”
Ellis Ross interjects to finish his thought, jokingly saying, “He saw the Rockefeller [Center Christmas] tree one year and said, ‘I want that.’ "
While the2023 Rockefeller Center tree, a Norway Spruce, is 80 feet tall and weighs 12 tons, Murphy’s tree inside his Los Angeles home is shorter but still impressively large compared to most indoor Christmas trees.
“Our tree is 20 feet high,” Murphy says, adding that a ladder is needed to decorate it. “Where the tree is, the roof is open. The tree doesn’t come up that high, but if we wanted to [go bigger], the roof slides open. I have a convertible house.”
