Elon Musk ’s X is dropping Unilever from its suit against a group of advertizer and sword that opted to stop purchasing ads on the platform . Unilever is a major packaged foods company that have the likes of Dove and Ben & Jerry ’s .
“ ecstasy is pleased to have reached an agreement with Unilever and to go on our partnership with them on the platform , ” it wrote in apost . “ Today ’s news show is part of the ecosystem - wide solution and we look forward to more resolution across the diligence . ” No discussion on what “ ecosystem - across-the-board solution ” mean .
X has been on a scorch - earth effort against anyone and everyone who Musk perceive as having harmed its advertising business since he read over . Advertising makes up the legal age of X ’s business , though it ’s trying to grow Premium into a larger seed of revenue .

Last fall , the companysued the nonprofitMedia matter for America after it reported that ads for major brands were appear alongside Nazi contentedness . In the wake of the report , IBM and others break promote on X.
Then this summertime , X announce an antitrust lawsuit against the World Federation of Advertisers ( WFA ) , which led an industry first step call the Global Alliance for Responsible Media ( GARM ) . In essense , brands who signed on to GARM agreed to intercept advertising on any platform that did n’t meet certain trade name safety standards . It was n’t specific to X , but the company claimed this group was specifically collude to “ collectively withold billion of dollars in advertising revenue ” from its chopine .
The mail from X announcing the news today constitute it vocalize awfully like Unilever had to pay so as to get dropped from the suit of clothes . We do n’t really make out , it could be as dewy-eyed as Unilever just decided it wanted to come back to the program . Other brand like Mars and CVS are still named .

Unilever has not respond to a petition for comment .
After Musk took over X — when it was still called Twitter — major advertisers like Hyundai right away paused advertizement as they sought to wait and see whether Musk would turn the platform into a cesspool with his newfangled mandate to let any cognitive content that was not illegal . Musk famouslytoldDisney CEO Bob Iger and other advertizer to “ go fuck yourself ” during an interview when postulate about adman opting to provide the political platform , claim they were attack free oral communication .
The trouble with Musk ’s laissez - faire content moderation plan is that brands generally need the public to connect them with favourableness . When you see snow and pivotal bears around Christmas you think of Coca - Cola , for instance . It make a positive association . Coca - Cola ( or * cough * Volkswagen ) does not need you to see Nazi content or beat bodies and think of them . News media hurt the same job — advertisers often do n’t want their stigma placed alongside article about death and war .

It ’s not just advertisers who do n’t like toxic content . user do n’t really need to see harmful content either , which is why Threads and Bluesky are growing and utmost platforms like Truth never seem to take off . But somehow Musk seems to think he ’s entitle to ad dollars .
Estimates rule that disco biscuit haslost at least 80 percentof its advertising taxation since Musk took over .
It also does n’t facilitate that , even before Musk buy it , the program was pocket-sized liken to the likes of Instagram and Snapchat . advertizer can leave alone X and move their expenditure elsewhere without causing much trouble for gross revenue .
