I approached him really as the opposite of the opportunity that I had gotten and the opportunities that a lot of other brown men traditionally get in Hollywood . I feel like we ’re this group where we can be the model nonage , so the bright nerd , or the accurate reverse , terrorists , depending on what the projection is . Those are the two ends of the spectrum that we absorb and very fiddling in between . I ’ve gotten to play a nerd , so I wanted this guy rope to be cool . I ’ve play wuss , so I wanted this guy to be strong . dark-brown Isle of Man have had to play terrorist , so I wanted this guy to be full of joyfulness . So , really , this eccentric for me was defined by what I did n’t want him to be .
The MCU
Speaking of which , in conversation with Ramy Youssef forVariety , Tessa Thompson state the next phase angle of the MCU will focus on a more ethnically divers roster of part .
I think in this next phase of Marvel , we ’re really utter about what representation look like in those spaces . Because the truth is these moving picture go globally in such huge ways , and if you could represent masses that are of people of colour , if you could be people with disabilities , if you could symbolize the LGBTQIA residential district within of these films , it ’s a middling big deal .
There ’s millions and one thousand thousand of people , particularly young mass , that show up to the cinema . And I think if you may show them something that look like them , they find valued . Particularly at heart of these story of the comic books , that ’s what it ’s all about . It ’s that our differences make us particular .

I ’m really excited that we ’re capable to continue to campaign the bounds of that and that I ’m able to do that with Valkyrie , because there ’s so many nerveless homophile characters in the comic books and they should have a station on - screen door .
