archeologist in Jerusalem say they have find evidence of harm in their excavations that was triggered by an earthquake mentioned in two Scripture of the Bible . References in the Old Testament have head to previous archaeological discoveries across the Middle East , and this new discovery might finally help to put a more exact date on events . This could help contemporise archaeological findings throughout the region .

The new discovery was found in the City of David National Park , located in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan . archeologist recover grounds of a destructive event with broken dish , cookware , and storage jars date from the eighth century BCE that come out to have been crush as wall come down . Other archaeological site have show an earthquake occurred in Israel 2,800 long time ago , but this is the first to show it reach Jerusalem .

" Examining the excavation finding , we seek to see if there is a reference to it in the biblical text . Interestingly , the earthquake that come out in the Bible in the record of Amos and Zechariah , pass off at the time when the construction we excavate in the City of David collapsed . The combination of the finds in the line of business together with the biblical verbal description head us to the conclusion that the earthquake that impress the Land of Israel during the reign of Uzziah king of Judah , also hit the majuscule of the land , Jerusalem . The first mention of the earthquake in the Bible is establish in theBook of Amos , which begins by saying that Amos ’ prognostication took place “ in the days of Uzziah king of Judah , and in the day of Jeroboam the son of Joash Billie Jean King of Israel , two years before the temblor . ” base on geological evidence , the seism materialize between 785 and 735 BCE , with historical grounds suggest date in the middle of that .   Historical reference related to the two top executive suggest the temblor happened in the 760s/750s BCE .

The second reference is in theBook of Zachariawhich says “ ye shall flee , like as ye fled from before the quake in the twenty-four hours of Uzziah king of Judah . ” The temblor is believed to have been pregnant , easy over magnitude 7.8 but belike inviolable . Six archaeological sites have grounds of such event , and now this 7th one has been discovered .

" The quake that occurred in the middle of the eighth one C BCE was probably one of the strongest and most damaging earthquakes in ancient times , and evidence of its happening has been discover in the past in excavations impart at a variety of site throughout Israel , such as Hazor , Gezer , Tel Agol , and evidence es - Safi / Gath , " Dr Uziel and Chalaf continued .

The team concluded the particular were destroyed as the wall where they were stored came crashing down on them , which is reproducible with a major quake . They excluded other causes , like deficiency of ardour show it was n’t a deliberate issue . They also ruled out this was an isolated incident ie . a single building collapse due to some unique morphologic damage . What happened there was evidence of something more widespread .

? ? Since there were no flame preindication witness , this is not a deliberate event , and the reason for the collapse of the structure is an earthquake that occurred in Israel during the eighth century BC , during the Kingdom of Judea , " Dr Uziel and Chalaf explained   ina Facebook post .
