Disney has let go the first smell at the ferine earth of Barsoom , from Andrew Stanton ’s lively - legal action adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs ’ classic novel John Carter of Mars . Plus the director shared how much he ’s had to change from the record book .
In an interview withThe Los Angeles Times , Stanton ( of Wall - E and Finding Nemo fame ) shared this astonishing construct art from his scientific discipline fabrication epical . Also in the lengthy interview : a lot of answers to enquiry that have been beset us about this monolithic movie labor .
One of the first thing Stanton tackled was the shortcoming of the novel itself — how do you make a picture out of a book that has a cliffhanger at the closing of each chapter ? ( Burroughs ’ story was earlier written as a serial . )

If it had been a perfect musical composition of literature I would have been a little too restrain to tweak it . I had every desire to make it feel on the CRT screen like how it made me feel show the book , and to me that ’s the most important affair . And I thought the only style to get there honestly was to read the book , come up with a bunch of ideas , and never reckon at the Good Book again … I looked at things like “ Apocaplyto ” and “ Rome ” and even things like “ Shogun ” and “ Lawrence of Arabia , ” things that as a viewer I could swallow as take in a degree of historical research . They give me a sense of what it would be like in that land and in that age . So then you ask , “ Well , what if we just did our Martian research really , really well and treated it as a full stop film .
But what will the motion picture actually look like ? agree to Stanton , dirty and upset :
People on my readiness could not distress things enough for me . Everything was pre - industrial ; I wanted it to look made by hand . I want the pre - revolution years of Mars to look like tall ship on the skyline . And to get that to come in across through the lens and then up on the screen , you just could n’t beat stuff up enough .

And finally Stanton explained why you wo n’t be seeing any of John Carter at Comic Con this year :
I think what it was is the perceptual experience that it ’s grow heavily and concentrated to stand out amid the din . We ’re going to do our especial effect to get some focus and separation . I know some people will read that as a sign that we ’re uncertain of our attribute . It ’s just the opposition . We need to see to it how and what is being seen and the elbow room it is presented .
