After years of waiting to see Yorick , 355 , and Ampersand wander through a landscape without fashion plate , fans might finally get a prospect to see the classic comic book series accommodate for the projection screen . Y : The Last Man is finally getting a pilot .
Varietyis reporting that FX , already home to Marvel ’s Legion , has ordered a pilot burner free-base on the Brian K. Vaughan / Pia Guerra serial that was published under DC Comics ’ Vertigo embossment . Michael Green ( American Gods , Logan ) and Aïda Mashaka Croalm ( Luke Cage ) are sequester as executive producer / showrunners , and will be work with Vaughan , who ’s done TV body of work on shows like lose and Under the Dome .
Y : The Last Man run for five years and tell the story of Yorick Brown , who wakes up as humanity ’s last survive male person after a mysterious infestation wipes out every other manful lifeform , except his pet rapscallion , Ampersand . There ’s no on - screen door talent attached to the project yet , but Melina Matsoukas ( Insecure , Master of None , Beyonce : Formation ) will direct the original . A project like this will almost certainly attract high - profile female talent from all over Hollywood and beyond .

Update : The Hollywood Reporterhas a more in - astuteness article of their own that charts the voluminous development chronicle of a Y : The Last humanity adaptation . The piece cites previous interviews with Green and Vaughan that seem to indicate the guidance the new project might take :
Vaughantold The Hollywood newsperson in Novemberthat he “ wanted to notice someone who loved the source stuff but did n’t find so indebted to it that they would be afraid to change it , ” with Green fitting that billhook . “ When [ Green ] first pitched his take on it to Nina Jacobson and me a long clip ago , he came in saying he wanted to do something about toxic maleness . It felt very relevant , and unfortunately , I think it ’s only become more relevant with each pass on day . His take on it was really dauntless and very different , but exciting as well . I really admire how bodacious he ’s been with his translation . ”
Green ’s visual sense for Y : The Last Man , hetold THR in July , changed after Trump was elect Chief Executive . “ It would have been a very different show , and very different exploitation mental process , had the election not been as horrifying as it was , ” Green said . “ I had to put the script down for a couple months and really reevaluate it tonally , because it became a different fauna , it became vehement protest . It could n’t not be political , and I had to embrace it , and I had to find my means in , and I had to find a way to transmit my own discouragement , letdown and rage into it , while still keep on it what it is . For a minute there I almost walk off . ”
