A Georgia law going into essence tomorrow will require that all sex offender not just turn over their email address and screen name to authorities — which go back to 2006 — butall their passwords as well .
Georgia is one of 15 states requiring sex wrongdoer to give their email reference , screen names and “ other internet handles ” to authority , and now the second ( after Utah ) to force them to give up their passwords as well , giving authority straight-out , unfettered accession to monitor their e-mail and other net activities .
State Senator Cecil Staton told MSNBC , “ We bound where they can live , we make their information available on the Internet . To some academic degree , we do occupy their privacy … But the feeling is , they have forfeit , to some grade , some privacy rights . ”

Obviously , privacy groups , like the Southern Center for Human Rights are occupy by the law , though there have n’t been any legal challenges to it yet . So , what do you guys think ? One step too far , or altogether legit ? [ MSNBCviaTechdirt ]
