On Sunday, model and socialiteHarry Brant, son of supermodelStephanie Seymourand high profile businessman Peter Brant, died of an accidental overdose.
“It is with enormous sorrow that we share with you the news that our beloved son, Harry Brant, lost his battle with addiction and died due to an accidental overdose of prescription medication,” Stephanie and Peter shared in a statement with PEOPLE. “Our hearts are shattered. Harry wanted to overcome his addiction and was just days away from re-entering rehab.”
“Harry was not just our son, he was also a wonderful brother, loving grandson, favorite uncle and a caring friend. He was a creative, loving and powerful soul that brought light into so many people’s hearts. He was truly a beautiful person inside and out.”
A source tells PEOPLE he was close with his family, especially Seymour. “His mom was his everything. His family cared for him a lot.”
Harry had reportedly struggled with addiction for several years and according to the source, his father was “worried” about Harry and was “trying to get him to go to rehab again.”
“He was supposed to go to rehab again [on Monday],” says the source. “It’s hard, anyone who knows addiction knows this.”

On Tuesday, Lilly Brant, Harry’s 16-year-old sister, wrote a tribute on Instagram.
“my amazing big brother and my best friend, words cannot describe how much i will miss you. you were the most amazing brother to me and you stuck with me through everything. you had the most beautiful and sensitive soul and a sense of humor that could brighten anyone’s day,” the post began.
“thank you for always making me smile. you taught me how to have empathy for everyone around me and you showed me what it feels like to be understood and cared about. you lit up my world and my heart is full of love for you. a piece of you will remain with me forever. i love you indefinitely harry. you are an angel and you will always be a beautiful person inside and out. ❤️rest in peace,” Lilly concluded, adding a quote from Ernest Hemingway.
Brant’s Instagram is filled with photos of his famous mom, often praising her modeling moves and calling her his “favorite lady” in apost from July 2020.
He started following in his mom’s fashionable footsteps from an early age. In his teens, he was a staple at industry events, often walking the red carpet and sitting front row at fashion shows alongside his older brother Peter Brant II, 27.
Both brothers, who have always been close, loved picking out clothes for their famous mom. “When they were little, they would lay out outfits for me,” Seymour toldHarper’s Bazaarin 2014. “I’d wake up at 7:30 A.M. and they would have laid out a 1955 vintage Dior couture gown and all the accessories too.”

In an interview withVanity Fairin 2012, Harry explained that he loved going to photo shoots with his mother. “I went to literally dozens,” Harry said. “I loved it,lovedit, even to this day. Playing around and dressing up.”
Between 2014 and 2015, he got his chance in front of the camera, posing forGivenchy ads,Italian Vogue, and even walking the Balmain runway.
