We ’ve been get word rumblings of holographical thrust and media for years , but now they ’re actually on the mode , ready to be shipped this year . We see some of these holographic storage paradigm at CES , where 515 GB of data can be shoehorned onto a satisfying inch of phonograph recording space .
What ’s the gimmick ? The first wave of products will apply a red optical maser , not the grim or light-green optical maser that will give us the most incredible densities . First out of the gate will be 300 GB disks with a disappointingly slow 20MB / 2nd transfer pace . And of course , this technology will be expensive at first . Even so , we ca n’t wait to see those red light-green and dingy laser multi - terabyte holographic record , small and lightning - tight .
