Noah Kahancan always count on the support of his mom,Lauri Berkenkamp.

The 27-year-old singer-songwriter brought his mom as his date to the2024 Grammy Awards, and she opened up about feeling emotional over her son’s success.

“Well, I cried three times in the car over [here],” Berkenkamp said during theLive from E!red carpet pre-show broadcast. “I’m trying really hard not to cry. I don’t usually look like this, so I’m trying to keep it together.”

“You look beautiful, mom,” Kahan sweetly told his mother, who wore a black velvet long-sleeved gown.

“My mom, literally my entire childhood, was like, ‘When you go to the Grammys, you got to take me.’ She made me promise,” Kahan recalled earlier this month. “I would not even let her talk about it until the day I found out I got nominated, and then I called her, and I’m like, ‘We’re going to the Grammys!’”

He added, “She deserves it. She drove me all around New England trying to get me places to play music and so the least I could do to repay her is to bring her to the biggest night of my life, at the Grammys.”

Kahan often sings about his parents and the struggles he experienced while growing up and following his parents' divorce.

In the lyrics of his track “Growing Sideways,” Kahan sings, “I’m still angry at my parents for what their parents did to them,” and in “Stick Season,” he expresses hopes of healing from “darkness” inherited from his dad.

Kahan shared withVT Diggerin January 2023 that while some of his lyrics seem to be critical of his parents, they are still more of an exaggeration and didn’t come as a shock to his parents, who’ve been understanding and supportive of him.

“It definitely was a conversation that I had with them before the record came out: ‘OK, I’m sorry if you guys feel uncomfortable about this,’” he said at the time. “And I don’t know if they have or not, or if they do. I still have a great relationship with my parents.”
